Gabriel Basso returns as Peter Sutherland in the gripping spy drama. Once a low-level agent answering calls in the White House basement, Peter is now a spy for the top-secret organization Night Action. After a brief training period, he finds himself on the front lines, tackling high-stakes missions and confronting threats ranging from chemical warfare to deep conspiracies.
Unfortunately, Peter’s first official mission in Thailand goes terribly wrong after the death of his mentor and partner, Alice (Brittany Snow). Convinced that someone within Night Action leaked their communications to the shadowy figures they were pursuing, Peter can’t trust his new boss, Catherine (Amanda Warren), especially after the Farr drama last season. He goes rogue and takes matters into his own hands, tracking the men to New York City while remaining undetectable from the U.S. government.
But if anyone can uncover Peter’s whereabouts, it’s Rose, who is now the lead developer for a tech company called AdVerse in California. Using the company’s advanced facial recognition software that she tweaked, she tracks him down after receiving a concerning phone call from a mysterious man hinting that Peter may be in danger.
Over the next 10 episodes, Rose and Peter work together to prevent a catastrophic chemical weapons attack orchestrated by dictator Viktor Bala. Along the way, Peter makes questionable decisions, including releasing a key witness and stealing intelligence from the United Nations. Unbeknownst to him, his actions sway a U.S. presidential election, setting the stage for his next mission as a double agent inside the White House in Season 3.

Dictator Viktor Bala, convicted of war crimes and imprisoned by The Hague, is the mastermind behind a new terrorist plot. He deployed the lethal chemical weapon KX against his enemies, claiming it had been sold to him by American operatives, which was dismissed by the U.N. Bala now plans to unleash the same deadly weapon on the U.N. for revenge.
KX was part of a top-secret CIA weapons program called Foxglove, which was created to make antidotes to chemical weapons, but it was dismantled. Bala uses his son, Tomás Bala, and his nephew, Markus, to steal the chemical agents and the lab to create them. Viewers quickly learn that Markus is even more unhinged and extreme than Tomás.
How Does Peter And Rose Stop The Chemical Weapons Attack?
The Night Agent. (L to R) Jay Karnes as Dr. Wilfred Cole, Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin in episode … [+]
Tomás and Markus kidnap Rose, along with Dr. Cole—the scientist behind the development of antidotes for the program—and his family. They put Rose and Dr. Cole in a laboratory and force them to produce a lethal, purple-hued chemical agent that transforms into a deadly gas capable of killing within seconds.
When Tomás realizes the potential of KX and the massive loss of life it could cause, he decides to help Rose and Dr. Cole. However, Markus uncovers his plan and confronts him. When Tomás pleads with Markus to call off the operation, he locks him in a room and smashes a vial of KX.
Rose and Dr. Cole come up with a plan to create a gas that incapacitates the terrorists guarding them, allowing them to escape with Dr. Cole’s family to safety. But Markus and his men have already infiltrated the U.N. building disguised as maintenance workers and placed KX canisters into the HVAC system.

The NYPD evacuates the U.N. building, and Rose assists the FBI in identifying Markus, who manages to escape and heads to a nearby hotel with the last canister of KX. He goes to the room where Tomás’ girlfriend, Sloan, is staying and demands that she arrange a jet for his getaway, but she become suspicious when Tomás isn’t with him.
Meanwhile, Peter and Rose arrive at the hotel to ask Sloan some questions, only to find themselves in a tense standoff with Markus. Peter shoots and kills Markus, while Rose discovers the final KX canister hidden in the hotel’s HVAC system. They realize that one way to shut down all the vents is to start a fire. Rose uses cleaning supplies in one of the vents to ignite a fire, and just as the KX is released, the vents seal shut.

The Night Agent. (L to R) Louis Herthum as Monroe, Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland in episode 208 … [+]
Throughout Season 2, Peter is pursued by a mysterious intelligence broker named Jacob Monroe, who manipulates him into releasing his top assassin, Solomon, from custody. Desperate to locate Rose and prevent the impending chemical attack, Peter teams up with Monroe to break into the U.N. and steal critical information.
Monroe hands Peter a phone, warning him that he will eventually call in a favor. He threatens that if Peter does not comply, he will expose his actions at the U.N., having already erased all surveillance footage as leverage. (Peter still ends up in jail for treason at the end of Season 2, but he is eventually granted a new opportunity by Catherine to make things right.)

Unfortunately, it appears that way. At the end of Season 2, Peter and Rose part ways. Peter explains to Rose that as long as he remains a night agent in Night Action, her safety will always be at risk. He tells her to live a normal life, and she agrees not to contact or search for him.
Rose returns to California and her tech job, where she has been promoted to Chief Technology Officer at Adverse, a platform she helped transform into a powerful tracking tool. She tells Noor, who also moved to California with her mom, “I feel like I can finally start my life again.”
What Is Peter’s Next Mission From Night Action?
The Night Agent. (L to R) Amanda Warren as Catherine, Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland in episode … [+]
It turns out that Monroe is secretly working with presidential candidate Governor Hagan. The information Peter helped Monroe steal from the U.N. exposes that Hagan’s opponent, former CIA director Patrick Knox, oversaw the sale of Foxglove weapons and KX to Viktor Bala years earlier. This forces Knox to withdraw from the race, leaving Hagan as the clear frontrunner.
At the end of Season 2, Catherine presents Peter with an opportunity to atone for his actions, including swinging the election in Hagon’s favor. (Catherine was also involved in the investigation into Peter’s father after he revealed U.S. secrets.)
Peter agrees to her proposal to become a double agent to determine the nature of Monroe’s relationship with Hagan. He must gain Monroe’s trust and uncover the snakes on his payroll, then “expose” and “destroy.” She hands him a cell phone and tells Peter to wait for Monroe to call.
